Nursing Informatics Self-Assessment
Based on the survey from Farzandipour et al. (2021), my overall informatics competency level is moderate. While I am confident in my basic computer skills and daily technology use, I recognize gaps in advanced informatics areas, such as systems development and data security.
Two Informatics Competencies Identified as Strengths:
-
Basic Computer Skills:
I feel highly competent in using essential computer functions such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools, which are crucial for documentation and communication in healthcare settings. -
Information Literacy:
I am proficient in searching for scholarly articles through databases like PubMed and CINAHL, critically appraising resources, and applying them to clinical decision-making.
Two Informatics Competencies Identified as Growth Opportunities:
-
Systems Development and Management:
I have limited experience in the design, customization, or evaluation of electronic health record (EHR) systems or health information technologies. -
Data Privacy and Security:
Although aware of HIPAA regulations, I need to deepen my knowledge regarding advanced data security measures, encryption, and risk management in digital systems. - Nursing Informatics Self-Assessment
