This review of one of the provided case studies should demonstrate an understanding of important aspects of the critical incident and provide an assessment of the response.

 

Critical Incident Case Study

This paper should:

  • Follow APA format (12 point type, double-spaced)
  • Provide references to the case study documents provided in module and at least one outside source
  • Length: 3-5 pages (length does not include Title Page and References Page)
  • Title of Assignment (for title page): Review of Critical Incident Case Study

Directions for Review of Case Study:

Choose one of the critical incident case studies supplied in the module (Orlando or San Bernardino)

Use the following headings in your paper and answer the listed questions under each heading.  

  • Case Study Overview: Provide a brief overview of the incident and then highlight the response from public safety.
  • Positive Response to Critical Incident: What did the responding agencies do well? Give an explanation and reasoning for why the responses were positive.
  • Response Improvements Needed:  What are some things the responding agencies could have done differently? Give an explanation and reasoning for why the response was lacking.
  • Public Response:  How did the public react to the public safety response of this incident?  Consider how the positive response you listed in your paper and the improvements needed relate to the public’s reaction.
  • Reflection of Critical Incident:  How will you utilize this information to assist you in handling critical incidents?

Reminders Before Submitting Paper:

  • Be sure to review the grading rubric before you submit your paper
  • Be sure to provide sources to support your answers with in-text citations in APA format.
  • Pay attention to grammar and mechanics
  • Do not submit your past work without permission from your instructor
