View the two videos linked below then answer the discussion question provided.

From the timeline, you are aware that in the 1960s it was decided that the mentally ill should be provided care/ treat in their communities. This video will explain this process in greater detail.

Deinstitutionalization Movement

This is another segment of the same movie, explaining how communities in the different states were unable to meet client needs. As a result, many became homeless at that time, and many with a mental health disorder are homeless today.

You will conduct a case study analysis of the aforementioned case. Your case analysis  addressing XYZ’s health clinic challenges reflected in the scenario.

XYZ health clinic has operated in the local area for 10 years. Due to an economic decline as a result of the state’s increasing number of uninsured residents, XYZ health clinic must adjust its current service offerings in order to recoup lost revenue. The state has elected to opt out of the Medicaid expansion program; therefore, many of the residents remain uninsured. This has proven extremely problematic for XYZ as many of the patients in the area are low income, but do not qualify for traditional Medicaid. As a result, XYZ’s payer mix is unfavorable as 33% of the residents have public insurance, 12% are uninsured, and only 5% are covered by private insurance. XYZ would like to implement telehealth as part of a new strategy to reach a wider demographic of patients.

You must find an article that is focused on a history event or person that we have discussed in class. It can be discussing the topic as a pure history lesson, or it can be discussing it to make a point about a current event, but it must be FOCUSED on the history topic. Do not send an article in which YOU are the one making a connection to a topic we discussed in class, the author must be doing so.

These may not be older than six months and must be from legitimate news sources (Wikipedia is not a legitimate source, nor is History.com). In the article, the author must be either discussing a historical topic, and/or using it to support an opinion about some current event. Either way, the historical topic must be one that we have already discussed in class.

  • How does the author attempt to support the thesis?
  • Is persuasion evident?  Is there an evident bias?
  • What are the specific flaws in the article and how might you respond to the author’s points with better research and argumentation? (Perhaps you could cite another source you have found which better presents the truth of the matter.)
