Assignment 6 Design: Entity Relationship Diagrams and File Design

Entity Relationship Diagram

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to create an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) to use as a model for the database design of the Case Study. You will place it in the SRS and SDD specifications and submit both documents.

Directions

1. SRS. Copy and rename your last submitted and corrected SRS from Assignment 3 like Week6DraftSrsERDLastnameFirstname using your name.

2. SDD. Copy and rename your last submitted and corrected SDD from Assignment 5 like Week6DraftSDDERDLastnameFirstname using your name.

3. SRS. Complete Appendix D in your SRS.

2.1 SRS. Create an ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram) for the Case Study using diagrams.net  (https://www.diagrams.net/index.html)   Your ERD should include entities and their attributes including the designation of primary keys and foreign keys. The ERD diagram includes relationships (like association, inheritance, aggregation, composition, etc.)  to other entities. Make certain that you include the names on the association relationships with the multiplicity constraints.  See the Tune Source ERD in Figure 6-14 on p. 239 in your textbook. Place your ERD in Section D.1.

2.2 SRS. Complete Section D.2Entity Definitions. Use the template “A NameOfClass is a ….” and complete the sentence.  For example ,”A Patient is a person who is registered with FCS and receives services”. In this example Patient is the name of class. The relationship is the phrase “is a”.,

2.3  SRS. Complete the discussion of your entity relationship diagram in section D.3.,

2.4 SRS. Make any corrections to your previous SRS and list them in Section D.4.,

4. SDD. Place a copy of your ERD in Section 5.1 in your SDD and include a description of the design.,

4.1 SDD. In Section 5.2 of your SDD describe any need for non-DBMS files.,

4.2 SDD. in Section 5.3 list any corrections to the previous SDD.,

Submission

Submit both your SRS and SDD below.

Grading Rubric

1.2 Complete SRS Appendix D.2 Case Study Entity Definitions.

1.3 Complete SRS Appendix D.3 Discussion of ERD.

1.4 Complete SRS Appendix D.4 Corrections for previous SRS.

2. SDD Section 5. File and Database Design (45)

Complete Section 5 of your SDD. See the SDD for details.

2.1 Complete SDD Section 5. File and Database Design by providing an overview.

2.2 Complete SDD Section 5.1 Database Design by copying your ERD there and describing the design.

2.2 Complete SDD Section 5.2 Non-Database Management System Files by describing non-DBMS files including usage.

2.3 Complete SDD Section 5.3 Corrections for SDD.  Make any corrections to your previous SDD and list the corrections here.

Syrian and Ukrainian Migration

For this chapter’s case study, we will discuss migration to Europe from Syria or Ukraine. For this week’s discussion board, I want you to imagine that you have been asked to prepare a briefing for the European Commission’s Migration and Home Affairs department. Based on your knowledge of European history, and world geography, and the articles you’ve read, which of the following policies would you select as the best approach to migration to Europe from Syria or Ukraine?

Syrian and Ukrainian Migration

  1. Allow all migrants from Syria or Ukraine to enter Europe.
  2. Only migrants who pass detailed background checks should be allowed. Those who do not pass background checks will be deported back to Syria or Ukraine.
  3. Europe should prohibit migrants from entering Europe and should instead support safe refugee camps in or near Syria or Ukraine.
  4. Europe should prohibit migrants from entering Europe and should instead intervene in Syria and Ukraine militarily.
  5. Europe should proportionally allocate a set number of migrants for each country based on economic and demographic factors.

Syrian and Ukrainian Migration

Explain why the approach you selected is the best way to handle this issue. Remember to cite evidence from the assigned articles in your initial response. Don’t forget to respond to two of your classmates before the discussion closes.
