Week 8: Capstone Reflection Presentation

Capstone Reflection Presentation

This week’s presentation assignment is an opportunity for personal reflection on the course project, the capstone course, and your entire General Education program experience. That reflection allows you to look forward to how the experience transfers to life beyond your college program.

Capstone Reflection Presentation

Why is this assignment valuable? As discussed in this week’s lesson, it is a final opportunity to practice, improve, and demonstrate your

  • presentation skills
  • critical thinking skills
  • metacognitive (thinking about your thinking) skills

Be sure they are on full display in this assignment!

Content and Structure:

Use these questions to guide your presentation development. Each bullet contains related questions that could be the general topic of one or more slides in the body of your presentation.

  • What went well in your course project development? What did you enjoy or find interesting?, What do you think is the best part of your project? How will this be useful in your future?,
  • What challenges did you face and how did you address them? ,How might you continue developing skills to prevent or resolve such challenges in the future?,
  • Beyond details about your selected technology’s history and application what did you learn about society and culture politics and economics ethics and equity as impacted by this or other technologies?,
  • Looking back at your progress through English Sociology Speech Ethics History Humanities Maths and other General Education, program courses ,what do you perceive is their value as preparation for success in your personal and professional life?,
  • Considering the DeVry General Education Common Learning Outcomes (GECLOs) which are often considered “soft” skills social  skills or human skills what are your current strengths and opportunities to develop further?, How will you need these skills? How will you continue developing in these areas?

The assignment requires no research, though to help inspire your reflection, you may wish to review your program to see which courses you took, course descriptions, and the Gen Ed program goals and objectives (GECLOs), all of which can be found in the DeVry Academic CatalogLinks to an external site..

Success Tips:

  • Be engaging and interesting. Do not copy the questions into your PowerPoint and talk through them as though you are filling out a boring worksheet. Instead, demonstrate your public speaking skills and use the questions as a guide to a more conversational approach.
  • Be aware of your role and your audience. Picture yourself sharing your insights in a fairly relaxed but professional meeting with a professor or workplace mentor who has guided you through the course and your college studies. Your audience is interested in you and your continuing personal development.
  • Be concise, clear, complete, and correct. Use key words and phrases on your slides, not sentences. Include personal and specific details to provide a complete and accurate understanding of your message. Check spelling, layout, citations and all other aspects of your work. Be sure your narration is audible.
  • Balance spoken and visual elements. While what you say is most important, the slides provide a concise textual outline and enriching illustration of your spoken message. Would charts, graphs or other illustrations complement and enhance your spoken message? Might you show artifacts from your project or from other courses? Be professional and creative. Avoid silly stock photos that merely distract.
  • Be ethical. If you include information or graphic/visual elements from any sources, acknowledge them with in-text citations where they appear and with full reference entries on a final slide.
  • Be prepared. Carefully review the expectations and grading rubric provided below.

Assignment Requirements:

  • Visually appealing presentation slide deck with about 8-10 slides (including title, intro, body, conclusion, and references slides).
  • Engaging recorded narration about 7-9 minutes long responding to the provided questions.
  • Citations of any sources used in the presentation.

Theft Issue Technology

Your company Acme Logistics has recently been experiencing some thefts of equipment during the business day. All employees have been asked about the thefts and no one is claiming that they are responsible. Your facilities has three doors that are not locked during business hours and currently have no identification standards set for admittance.

Theft Issue Technology

You have been tasked with resolving this issue technologically. Using a mixture of Biometric devices, surveillance systems with advanced tracking for biometric tags such as gait analysis, and other items or technology you deem necessary, you must capture these individuals and stop the thefts. You need to produce a plan on how you are going to tackle this situation. You should submit a proposal with the following items:

1) What is the situational breakdown?,

2) What is the technology you will use to secure access to authorized individuals at the three public doors?,

3) What is the technology you will use to capture the individuals in the act of stealing items?,

4) What is the anticipated cost to the company?,

5) What is the anticipated roll out time frame?,

6) Are there any legal issues we must be concerned about? THERE ARE ALWAYS LEGAL CONCERNS.  YOU MUST SPEAK ABOUT A SPECIFIC LAW OR ACT.,

Please answer these questions as a business proposal for your boss to review and approve. It is anticipated that the assignment will be between 4-6 pages long, and writing quality (APA) will be enforced, do include a list of references and sources, if necessary. Theft Issue Technology

Assessment 3

Current Debate in Learning Theory

Write a 5-7 page analysis on a featured debate on learning theory. You will explore how the evolution of learning theories and neuroscience has shaped a current learning controversy.

Current Debate in Learning Theory

Expand All

Introduction

Learning theories evolve over time. It is important to understand how historical, political, and cultural changes affect learning theories and how they are applied. The purpose of analyzing a current learning theory debate allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of theories and critical thinking skills, as well as how to apply theory to your own specialized field of psychology. Current Debate in Learning Theory

Preparation

As we discover more about how people learn, the application of learning theories also changes. An idea that worked 50, 20, or even 5 years ago might not work currently due to a shift in cultural beliefs, new knowledge, or new learning contexts. Any change in our thinking can affect the way we apply learning theories. Many times, differing perspectives can lead to productive discussions and academic debates that further the evolution of the learning theory. Current Debate in Learning Theory

Instructions

In this assessment, you will explore how the evolution of learning theories and neuroscience has shaped a current learning debate.

Select one of the following learning topics:

  • Multiple intelligences.
  • Learning styles.
  • Brain hemisphere dominance (left versus right brain).
  • The Mozart effect.
  • Homework is essential for learning.
  • The use of technology and “screens” in learning.
  • Learning happens best in a school.

Research the historical approaches for the learning controversy and how this issue is currently being debated.,

  • Looking at this learning controversy through the lens of learning theories and neuroscience identify what has changed or been discovered.,
  • Analyze the multiple perspectives of the selected theoretical concept.,
  • Present arguments on both sides of the debate—both for and against the idea.,
  • Assess the effect of the selected theoretical concept on your area of specialization.,

To complete this assessment you will need to do the following:

  • Evaluate multiple perspectives on both sides of the selected theoretical concept.
    • Present the arguments from both sides of the debate.,
    • Discuss the current state of the debate in the field.,
  • Assess the quality of available research being used to support a current debate in learning theory.
    • Examine the nature of the research that is being used by each side of the debate.,
    • Determine the quality of this research by determining if the articles are theoretical in nature, are opinions, or are quality academic research.,
  • Apply APA style and formatting to scholarly writing.
    • Exhibit adherence to stylistic conventions, document structure, and source attributions.

Additional Requirements

  • Written communication: Write coherently to support central ideas, in appropriate APA format, and with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics.
  • Length: 5 pages (not counting your title page or references), double-spaced.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 points.
  • Number of references: Minimum of five references.
  • Article distinctions: There are three different types of articles. Research articles present original research, review articles discuss research already presented elsewhere, and survey articles are comprehensive review articles that discuss an entire field or area of research. References to books are acceptable, but these references should be kept to a minimum—preferably, use no more than five book references.
  • APA style: References and citations should be formatted according to current APA style and formatting standards. Refer to Evidence and APA. You may also use the APA Paper Template [DOCX] Download APA Paper Template [DOCX].
  • Style: Write in the third person as an impartial narrator. Avoid the use of Iwe, or you. In particular, avoid phrases such as “I think” in favor of phrases such as “the evidence suggests” or “research indicates.” In science, personal opinion carries no weight unless supported by a combination of empirical research and statistical or logical-mathematical inference.
  • Other notes: Avoid long quoted passages from your source texts. Your writing should synthesize your own ideas, in your own words—even if your ideas refer to the original ideas of others, in which case the references should be explicit. Graduate-level writing should be scholarly and more than a mere summary. It should present a unique thesis or at least a significant point you are trying to make, adding appreciably to what is already known of your topic. Your point or thesis will stand or fall solely on its strength—that is, the quality and quantity of the evidence you present.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 2: Evaluate the strengths, limitations, and applications of learning principles and concepts.
    • Evaluate multiple perspectives on both sides of the selected theoretical concept.
  • Competency 3: Apply evidence-based research in learning theories to guide decision making and problem solving.
    • Assess the quality of available research being used to support a current debate in learning theory.
  • Competency 4: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the psychological professions.
    • Apply APA style and formatting to scholarly writing.

Evolving Learning Theories

Theories of learning undergo continual scrutiny, research, and testing. Occasionally, something that seemed to be a good idea at one point is later discounted. If trendy ideas have found their way into popular culture, it can be hard for both learners and educators to let go and embrace new ways of thinking. In this assessment, you will have the opportunity to explore current debates related to learning theories.

The resources in the following reading lists will help you select the learning theory to use for this assessment and get you started on your research. Use the Capella library to search for additional information on your selected topic to support your assessment.

Multiple Intelligences

Learning Styles

Brain Hemisphere Dominance (Left Versus Right Brain)

The Mozart Effect

Homework Is Essential for Learning

The Use of Technology and “Screens” in Learning

Learning Happens Best in a School

Point-Counterpoint Writing

The resource in the following reading list shows styles of argumentation in writing. This will help prepare you for the assessment by providing insight into presenting both sides of a debate in your own writing.

APA Style and Format

Because this is a psychology course, you need to format this assessment according to APA guidelines. Refer to the resources found in the Evidence and APA section of the Writing Center. You may also use the APA Paper Template [DOCX] Download APA Paper Template [DOCX]for this assessment.

Telehealth During Covid

Class,

Telehealth is something that was used a great deal during Covid in order to get patient’s seen for routine visits. One thing that has been an issue in my rural area is that many don’t have good internet service so they were not able to use this service. There are many patients who started using the service during Covid that have kept the services going. What are issues that others face?

Differential Diagnosis Focused Soap Note

Review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the insights they provide about assessing, diagnosing, and treating mood disorders.

  • Review the Focused SOAP Note template, which you will use to complete this Assignment. There is also a Focused SOAP Note Exemplar provided as a guide for Assignment expectations.

Differential Diagnosis Focused Soap Note

  • Review the video, Case Study: Petunia Park. You will use this case as the basis of this Assignment. In this video, a Walden faculty member is assessing a mock patient. The patient will be represented onscreen as an avatar.
  • Consider what history would be necessary to collect from this patient.
  • Consider what interview questions you would need to ask this patient.
  • Consider patient diagnostics missing from the video: Provider Review outside of interview:
    Temp 98.2  Pulse  90 Respiration 18  B/P  138/88
Laboratory Data Available: Urine drug and alcohol screen negative.  CBC within normal ranges, CMP within normal ranges. Lipid panel within normal ranges. Prolactin Level 8; TSH 6.3 (H)

The Assignment

Develop a Focused SOAP Note, including your differential diagnosis and critical-thinking process to formulate a primary diagnosis. Incorporate the following into your responses in the template:

  • Subjective: What details did the patient provide regarding their chief complaint and symptomatology to derive your differential diagnosis?, What is the duration and severity of their symptoms?, How are their symptoms impacting their functioning in life? ,
  • Objective: What observations did you make during the psychiatric assessment? ,
  • Assessment: Discuss the patient’s mental status examination results. ,What were your differential diagnoses? Provide a minimum of three possible diagnoses with supporting evidence listed in order from highest to lowest priority., Compare the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria for each differential diagnosis and explain what DSM-5 criteria rules out the differential diagnosis to find an accurate diagnosis., Explain the critical-thinking process that led you to the primary diagnosis you selected. Include pertinent positives and pertinent negatives for the specific patient case.,
  • Plan: What is your plan for psychotherapy? What is your plan for treatment and management, including alternative therapies?, Include pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments, alternative therapies, and follow-up parameters as well as a rationale for this treatment and management plan. Also incorporate one health promotion activity and one patient education strategy.
  • Reflection notes: Reflect on this case. Discuss what you learned and what you might do differently. Also include in your reflection a discussion related to legal/ethical considerations (demonstrate critical thinking beyond confidentiality and consent for treatment!), social determinates of health, health promotion, and disease prevention that takes into consideration patient factors (such as age, ethnic group, etc.), PMH, and other risk factors (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural background, etc.).
