Journalism and Publishing in the Digital Age Assignment: Final Project and Presentation Due: Wednesday, Dec. 11 Over the course of this semester, we have examined and debated the future of journalism and publishing in the digital age — both through the lens of the changing media industry and through your personal news consumption habits.

Journalism and Publishing

This final project will allow you to bring these themes together to reflect on the material we have learned and to share your personal views on the future of news., The final project will consider of three parts as follows: Reflection on Personal Media Consumption (2 pages), At the start of the semester you were asked to consume at least 20 minutes of news per day. And for your media diary entries you have been engaging with the news through different platforms and analyzing how information is presented., Now complete a two-page reflection that summarizes your personal media use and lessons you have learned as a news consumer., In this paper you should: – Discuss how your media consumption has changed if at all compared to the start of the semester., – Reflect on the positive and negative experiences you have had as a news consumer and whether your perspective on journalism has changed. ,- Explain whether your own news consumption habits reflect some of the trends we have studied in class about how the population at large now consumes news. ,- Finally discuss whether you believe your media consumption habits will change going forward in both your personal life and professional career. ,Reflections on the Digital Landscape (3 pages) Using your knowledge of the digital media landscape from your research and work in this course outline your vision for the best way forward to inform news consumers in the digital age. ,Write a three-page exploration that can include commentary from media critics examples from the digital media sites the class has shared, your readings, and the skills you’ve gained as a skeptical news consumer. Journalism and Publishing

Key questions to consider: What approach to covering the news represents the best chance for informing the public? How can journalism restore public trust in its coverage? What are your thoughts on the most promising business models for journalism’s future? If you are passionate about quality journalism in the digital age, here is your chance to show it. If you are skeptical and pessimistic, make the argument for your viewpoint. Presentation (5-7 minutes) The purpose of this presentation is to make your argument to the class about the best way forward to inform news consumers in the digital age. You should create 5 slides based on your reflection paper that outline your arguments. You should also incorporate visuals that support your argument, including charts, graphs, news clips, or digital media examples. You should use Microsoft PowerPoint or any other presentation software for your presentation. You will have about 5-7 minutes for your presentation. Your presentation will be evaluated according to the following criteria: 1. Preparedness (20%): You must be prepared for your presentation. Be on time and post your presentation on Canvas before the class (the day of your presentation). You will be given 5-7 minutes to finish your presentation. If you go over time, you will be penalized. You must not read the slides or flashcards. Flashcards and slides must only be used as a guide. 2. Presentation (20%): You should demonstrate your knowledge of the theories and the topics that we have learned this semester. Your presentation should not be more than 5 slides long. It should have title and introduction, findings and conclusion slides. There should be no grammar and spelling mistakes. 3. Content (60%): Your presentation should demonstrate a clear point of view that is supported by research and information learned in this class and derived from outside readings, videos and podcasts. It’s important to remember you are being asked to offer an informed opinion (i.e. what you think).  Journalism and PublishingYou are not simply restating information.

Dollar-Cost Averaging Performance

HW5 – Analyzing the Performance of Your Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) Cryptocurrency Portfolio

Assignment Instructions:

Overview: Throughout the term, you have been implementing a dollar-cost averaging (DCA) strategy by investing $1 daily in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), or in a diversified portfolio of cryptocurrencies if you chose to include other assets. Now that we are nearing the end of the course, it’s time to evaluate how your investment has performed and compare it to an alternative strategy of making a lump sum investment at the beginning of the term.

Dollar-Cost Averaging Performance

Part 1: Initial Reflection

  1. Strategy Reflection:
    • Question:Do you find the dollar-cost averaging strategy to be useful or interesting?, Can you envision this strategy being part of a well-diversified portfolio that includes other asset classes (e.g. stocks bonds real estate)? ,What are the benefits of including a DCA strategy within a broader investment portfolio?,
    • Response:Provide a thoughtful reflection (100-200 words) on how DCA might complement other investment strategies considering factors such as risk management market volatility and the psychological benefits of regular investing.

Part 2: Portfolio Performance Analysis

  1. Performance Comparison:
    • Task:Compare the performance of your DCA investment strategy with the hypothetical scenario where you would have invested a lump sum in the same cryptocurrencies on the first day of the term., Your analysis should consider the following:
      • The total amount invested through DCA versus the amount that would have been invested in the lump sum.,
      • The value of your portfolio at the end of the term for both strategies.,
      • A comparison of the returns generated by each strategy. Dollar-Cost Averaging Performance
  1. Volatility and Risk Analysis:
    • Task:Evaluate the volatility and risk associated with both the DCA strategy and the lump sum investment. Consider the following:
      • How did the DCA strategy help mitigate the effects of market volatility compared to the lump sum investment?
      • Were there periods of significant price fluctuations, and how did these affect each strategy’s performance?

  1. Economic Implications:
    • Task:Discuss the economic implications of using a DCA strategy in the context of cryptocurrency investments. Consider the following:
      • How does DCA help in managing the psychological aspects of investing, especially in a highly volatile market like cryptocurrency?
      • What are the potential downsides of DCA, particularly when compared to a lump sum investment during a bullish market?

Part 3: Final Thoughts and Recommendations

  1. Final Evaluation:
    • Question:Based on your analysis, which investment strategy do you think was more effective in this context, and why? Would you consider using the DCA strategy in your personal investment portfolio? Provide a rationale for your decision.
    • Response:Write a brief evaluation (100-200 words) summarizing your findings and stating your preference between the DCA strategy and the lump sum investment, supported by the data you analyzed.

Deliverables: Dollar-Cost Averaging Performance

  1. Report:Submit a comprehensive report in PDF format that includes:
    • Your reflections from Part 1.
    • Detailed analysis and comparisons from Part 2, including all necessary calculations, charts, or tables to support your analysis.
    • Your final thoughts and recommendations from Part 3.
  2. Screenshots:Include screenshots of your cryptocurrency exchange account showing the history of your DCA purchases and the final value of your portfolio. Ensure that your name or account identifier is visible.

Healthcare in the U.S

As the manager of a community healthcare clinic, you are on the frontlines of healthcare, connecting people with the information and resources they need, and this includes our leaders. In recent years, you have witnessed debates about healthcare systems policy on the rise within your community as well as at the local, state, and national levels. Knowing the significance of this issue for your community, you decide to put together a pamphlet for legislators to help them craft better healthcare legislation. You want your pamphlet to inform legislators about the existing U.S. healthcare system and, in order to evaluate proposed reforms and initiatives, how our system compares with the healthcare systems of other countries. Your pamphlet will include a point-by-point comparison of the U.S. healthcare system with the systems of two other countries as well as an objective analysis of how the healthcare policies of all three countries deal with two issues that are significant for your community.

Win-win Transactions

Type a set of five questions and answers that reflect your understanding of the concepts of factswin-win transactionsloopholes, and line drawing.

Your test will be graded on your ability to create thought-provoking, practical examples and demonstrate deep engagement with the material. Be sure to follow these guidelines carefully.

Win-win Transactions

What to Do:

  1. Create Five Original Questions (20 Points Each):
    • Write one question for each of the following concepts:
      • Facts: Focus on how legal decision-makers determine “what happened” in a case.
      • Win-Win Transactions: Explore situations where all parties seemingly benefit and the legal or ethical boundaries of such agreements.
      • Loopholes: Investigate gaps in laws or rules and how they can be exploited or closed.
      • Line Drawing: Examine how courts, lawmakers, or individuals draw boundaries to resolve complex legal issues.
    • Write a fifth question that ties together two or more of these concepts.
  2. Draft and Explain the Correct Answer (and Incorrect Answers):
    • For each question, provide an answer key.
    • Explain in 3-5 sentences why your answer is correct.
    • Explain why the other choices are incorrect.
  3. Cite Readings and Class Discussions:
    • Use examples, principles, and authors we’ve studied in class to support your answers.
    • Draw from readings like Kenneth Arrow on incentives, Saul Levmore on legal innovation, and Michael Pardo on proof.

Grading Criteria:

  • 20 Points per Question (100 Points Total):
    • Creativity & Practicality (10 points): Does your question reflect real-world complexity? Does it require thoughtful application rather than simple recall?,
    • Clarity (5 points): Is the question clear and well-written?,
    • Correct Answer Explanation (5 points): Does your explanation demonstrate depth and reference course materials?

Important Notes:

  • Avoid simplistic or overly broad questions such as “What is a loophole?” or “Define win-win transactions.” Questions like these will receive little to no credit.,
  • Be practical: Think of scenarios that a lawyer judge or policymaker might actually encounter.,
  • You’re welcome to reference hypothetical scenarios or current events to inspire your questions.

Example:

  • You may wish to create a question about a company’s creative interpretation of tax laws (loopholes) or a scenario where facts are disputed in a courtroom. Be sure to focus on the legal reasoning process and the consequences of these situations.
