LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this assignment, students will be able to:
- Identify, review and evaluate information expressed within current newspaper articles
- Develop skills to critically analyse, interpret, and evaluate the larger meaning of text.
- Share information and explain how the articles are relevant to the course content.
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Critically analyse newspaper/magazine articles that explore diverse topics covered within the course. The articles must be current and relevant to course materials. International newspapers and magazines are accepted.
To read critically, you must think critically. What does this mean? Critical thinking involves several related mental process: analysis, interpretations and evaluation
STEP 2: Reflect on what you have read. What are your feelings about the topic? What experiences, assumptions, knowledge, and perspectives do you bring to the text? What biases might you have? Are you able to keep an open mind and consider other points?
STEP 3: In no more than one page and in your own words provide a critical analysis, interpretations and evaluation of what you have just read. Ask yourself: What is the main point of the article? How do you know? What detail(s) from the text forms your opinion (s)?
STEP 4: Drop your one pager in the drop box on or before the due date. If time permits, we will share some of the articles contents and explain how the article is relevant to the material(s) covered in the course.
