PERIOD FOUR: 1940-1960
Write two (2.5 pages) essays. You will write one essay on each of the last three periods of literature we have studied in the second half of this course.
For each of the periods, you should choose two works by two different authors from our assigned readings, each of which exemplifies a different aspect of that period. Texts must be on our syllabus.
Begin each essay with a broader statement (a few sentences) that describes names the period and its time range as well as that period’s concerns and some of the features of its literature. Then introduce the two works by two different authors that you will offer as examples of two different aspects of the period. Give the full titles in correct format and full authors’ names. Briefly explain how each work illustrates that particular aspect. End your essay with a few sentences that put the two works back into their period context.
