Based on your instruments and matrix plan submissions, students will be provided an instrument, data set, and a specific project objective to complete this assignment.

Case Scenario:  PC Clinic

Based on your identified issue, you have determined that headaches seem to be an area of concern and you have identified a patient education program to increase patient understanding of headache diagnosis and headache management.

You have been given baseline data that was used to determine the need for a headache management program. You have now trained staff and implemented using the HIT-6 questionnaire which was administered as a pre-test (prior to patient education) and then again one month following initial visit as a post-test. In your dataset, the variables Q1_pre-Q6_pre provide data from the HIT-6 items from the pre-test. Variables Q1-post-Q6_post provide data for HIT-6 items from the post-test. “QI_Implementation” provides information on when the patient was seen (either prior to QI implementation or after QI implementation).

The following information is not part of the grading rubric and does not have to be submitted to the assignment section.  These questions/statements have been developed only to help you get started in your analysis process.

Based on your dataset, analyze the findings of the study with regards to headache management. Specifically:

  1. Prior to the use of the HIT-6 questionnaire, what data was concerning to you as a provider? Why?
  2. Are your findings consistent with the literature (i.e. how does your patients’ data compare with the chronic/episodic headache criteria)? Why or why not? Connect this information with your QI benchmark.
  3. Based on this information collected in the HIT-6 questionnaire what type of education was provided to the staff during the staff education on headache management? What types of processes were put into place to ensure patients’ compliance of headache self-management?
  4. After education was provided to staff nurses, was there an improvement in migraine control by patients?
  5. What was the project impact and do you have any recommendations for revisions to your plan?
  6. Based on the intervention (staff education) provided, what impact did the QI initiative have on your project?

Tip:
You will need to use a paired samples t-test for your statistical analysis since you are looking at pre- and post- scores. Other analyses to consider include correlational analysis, descriptive (mean, SD, etc.) and frequency (modes/percentages) analysis for individual survey items pre-and post- implementation and other variables of interest.
