The Patriot Act & Islamophobia

Research Question: Did the Patriot Act contribute to the rise of Islamophobic culture in the US post 9/11?

PART 1: Literature Review (1200-1500 words) Write a literature review that describes and evaluates the most important scholarly answers to your research question. Though it will be integrated into the whole research design later, it should also make sense as a standalone essay. Thus, the literature review section has its own introduction, body, and conclusion.   Consider these questions: How have important scholars answered my general research question? What are the most important schools of thought and who are identified with them? What is an appropriate label for this group of authors? Why? In conclusion, which school of thought seems to provide the best answer? Why?   Properly document approximately 20 peer-reviewed scholarly sources, using APA-style citations and references. You must give credit to any author who helped you understand the general layout of the field, and you must read and cite the major scholars participating in the debate.

In the body of your literature review, each paragraph will have several in-text citations. It is impossible to write a literature review free of plagiarism that lacks citations. This section is all about showing the reader that you know the major written works on the topic.   However, keep in mind that this is your perspective on the literature. You should feel free to develop labels to identify major schools of thought and, if appropriate, take an unpopular position (as long as you can defend it.)   Finally, be sure to conclude with what you believe is the strongest answer to the research question and convince the reader that you have made the best choice. ** I have uploaded Ch2 of Creswell’s textbook and the document provided by our professor with the outline of a literature review so please take a look into it.

PART 2: Data collection and analysis plan This component of your research design includes a detailed description of the data you need to collect to answer your research question (e.g., attitudinal data or direct observations), how you propose to collect these data (e.g., survey instrument or participant-observation) and how you to plan to analyze and interpret them (e.g., statistical analysis or political ethnography). In writing the data analysis and collection section of the research design, consult Creswell’s templates for a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods study.   APA.
