Instructions

· Each research paper should be a minimum of 6 pages.

· The vast difference in page count is because some countries and/or crime/topics are quite easy to study and some countries and/or crime/topics have very limited information.

· In some instances, there will be a plethora of information and you must use skilled writing to maintain proper page count.

· Please keep in mind that this is doctoral level analysis and writing – you are to take the hard-earned road – the road less travelled – the scholarly road in forming your paper.

Allocate at least 5 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Review the unit plan you created with your mentor teacher. Select one lesson from the unit plan to implement with the class or a small group of students, using the student groupings created in Topic 2.  Revise the lesson based on any feedback received from your mentor teacher prior to teaching the lesson. Record yourself teaching the lesson using any video recording device. It is mandatory that the “Video Recording Permission Requests” be completed by the parent/guardian of each student prior to recording.  After the lesson, review the video with your mentor teacher and obtain feedback on how the lesson went.

Use the remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.

Curricular Issues in Schools

1. Curricular Issue: Lack of Culturally Relevant Content
One major curricular issue in my educational milieu is the lack of culturally relevant or inclusive content. In many schools, the curriculum remains heavily Eurocentric, focusing primarily on Western history, literature, and perspectives while overlooking the contributions, experiences, and histories of diverse groups—particularly Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.

2. Who It Affects
This issue affects a wide range of individuals in the school environment:

Case Study

The company operates about 1,500 convenience stores. A sales assistant at one of the company’s stores was murdered while on duty on the second shift. The murder was widely publicized, and employees complained of inadequate security measures. As a result of the murder, 15 sales assistants telephoned the union requesting a union organization effort. The union sent representatives to 60 stores in the area where the murder had occurred and left union authorization cards. Two days later the company notified the union that an injunction had been issued during a prior union campaign prohibiting solicitation on company property.  [Hint:  Keep in mind that there is no date given when this injunction was filed and whether was still valid.] 

The next workday, the company had a meeting with the store managers in the area and talked about the need to improve security. The company officials also discussed the union’s organization activities and reminded the managers of the “no solicitation” policy and stated that a union would not necessarily do the employees any good. Later that week, the company had an unprecedented meeting for all sales assistants. Approximately 1,200 sales assistants attended and were paid for their time. The company officials told the employees that they did not need a union and that the employees from the union could retrieve their authorization cards. The employees were asked to voice their complaints.  Thus, the employees listed the following:

●      getting less than 40 hours work per week;

●      not having breaks;

●      not being paid for overtime work;

●      working alone at night; and

●      poor lighting at the stores.

Unfair Labor Practices Analysis

The next day the company sent a memo to all regional personnel directing that sales assistants should work a 40-hour workweek; canopy lights were installed at all the stores; a policy was adopted that no one would be required to work alone at night; and sales assistants began receiving wages for after-hours overtime work. The company posted “no solicitation” signs in all stores and directed that those signs be enforced; if the employees did not enforce the signs, they would lose their jobs. Later that month the company held further meetings with sales assistants, who again were paid for their time. They asked to select committee representatives to meet with management to discuss their complaints. Management officials left the room while the employees selected their representatives. The company made a list of the ten most frequently mentioned items from the employees’ recommended subjects for the committee to discuss.

Meanwhile, the union filed a representation petition with the NLRB seeking an election in a unit of all College Park, MD sales assistants. The company president told the managers to tell the sales assistants that if they joined the union, the company would close those stores. The first meeting of the Employee Management Committee was held and the ten priority items were listed, granting employees a new vacation policy, improved health-care benefits, sick days, change in holiday hours for pay, recognition of seniority ranks, and improved security systems. Not long after that, the company sent an additional memo around announcing other improvements in life, major medical, and accident insurance plans, in addition to death and family benefits and a revised disciplinary appeal system .  [Hint: One has to wonder if this is a last-minute effort by Management, or an early Christmas gift for employees – but now is your time to consider the possibilities.]

You are a newly hired HR professional now working for Jeans Inc. Jeans does not have a formal wage structure or rate ranges and does not use compensable factors. Wages are basically set on prevailing wages in surrounding communities coupled with some attempt for internal equity among workers.

Jeans does not participate in formal pay surveys. Instead, the administrative assistant routinely looks over online job openings and conducts informal surveys among her friends in local organizations. As architects of the modern workforce, HR professionals play a pivotal role in creating an environment that fosters innovation, resilience, and continuous improvement. One of the key roles of an HR professional is to determine employee professional development and training needs and to create and evaluate those training sessions. In your Week 7 activity you started the process of planning an employee training session. In this assignment, you will incorporate those details as a foundation and build upon them to finish the training plan.

Scenario

You are continuing in your position as a human resource manager at a hospital that is facing a high rate of medical errors and lawsuits. You have previously conducted the employee needs assessment, used data to identify gaps and deficiencies, defined the problem, aligned it with the hospital’s business goals, and created your training objectives. Now it is time to propose a plan for employee training to motivate employees and satisfy leadership concerns.

Building on your Week 7 activity, develop a detailed design and delivery plan for the training that can be shared with all stakeholders. Your goal is to satisfy leadership concerns and to motivate employees to find value in the proposed training. All responses must be on the linked assignment template.

Notes: You can make all necessary assumptions for this assignment. Refer to your Week 7 learning activities for more support, including the Chapter 9 reading and the multimedia resource.

1: Set the stage for the training design by reviewing the needs assessment results:

  • Summarize the needs assessment and results created in your Week 7 activity. This will include the performance deficiencies identified, the objectives created, and how the objectives align with the business goals based on the scenario. (Note: be sure you have incorporated the instructor’s feedback and made any required revisions.)

2: Select the training method (e.g., presentation, discussion, case study, discovery, role play, simulation, modeling, on-the-job training, etc.).

  • Explain why the selected training method would be the most effective to meet the objectives.

3: Determine the tool(s) necessary to develop the training:

  • Propose three (3) criteria to use in selecting a vendor tool to deliver the training.
  • Explain how and why the selected tool was chosen.

4: Encourage and track training attendance:,

  • Propose two (2) proven methods to motivate employees to attend the training.,
  • Propose two (2) proven methods to track employee attendance at the training.,
  • Propose two (2) proven methods to address employees who do not attend or participate in training sessions.,

5: Evaluate the effectiveness of the training through feedback.,

  • Determine three (3) ways to collect targeted feedback from training participants and explain how the feedback can be used to improve future training sessions.

6: Extend the training by discussing ongoing employee development at the end of your plan.

  • Explain the key differences between employee training and employee development.
  • Recommend two (2) types of employee development that could follow the training to help employees grow and develop as individuals. Connect your recommendations to the success of the organization.
