S: 16-year-old Hispanic male with weakness and reported loss of consciousness on Sunday for approximately 2–3 minutes., The episode was unwitnessed by providers but observed by his mother., He regained awareness quickly and was oriented. ,No EMS called or ER evaluation performed., Patient has a history of brain tumor with surgeries in 2016 and 2020 receives monthly chemotherapy., Complaints of fatigue shortness of breath on exertion poor appetite difficulty walking and generalized weakness., Often sleeps during the day and struggles to expectorate sputum. Reason for Seeking Care

Y.C. is a 35-year-old woman who is 6 months pregnant and presents to her obstetrics appointment with complaints of periodic pain in the right upper quadrant and mid-back. This pain tends to accompany nausea and sometimes episodes of vomiting. The woman indicates she feels somewhat feverish at times but has not taken her temperature.

History of Present Illness and Health History

A 35-year-old pregnant woman, G1P0 presents for her routine obstetric examination at 28 weeks. The woman appears her stated age and appears to be somewhat uncomfortable due to reported back pain and right upper quadrant pain. This pain started approximately 1 week prior and comes and goes throughout the day and night. The patient reports a hot bath is the only relieving measure. The pain does not respond to repositioning, OTC pain medication, or other measures. The woman reports nausea with the pain and occasional vomiting also associated with the pain. The woman’s history includes polycystic ovary syndrome and chronic sinusitis with a deviated septum repair. Current medications include only prenatal vitamins.

Instructions: You must use the LIRN database via the FNU library to locate and analyze at minimum two research articles related to your topic from scholarly journals no older than 2017. You are required to submit a research paper, a PPT presentation, and a recorded oral presentation based on your analysis (see project rubrics for specific grading). Articles may be approved by instructor prior to commencement of project. You are to use multiple other references when collecting information related to your condition.

Content: The research paper MUST address all of the topics/questions on the following page. You may use your orthopedic textbook and other appropriate sources for information related to the condition. Any information that is specific to your condition should be included.

Format/Style: The research paper and all references (books/journals) must be in APA style. Structure: Cover page, introduction, body, conclusion, references page, main articles (include title pages only)

Plagiarism: All content in the research paper must be your own thoughts. All information taken from textbooks, scholarly journals, or other sources MUST be cited within the research paper and cited in the references. Any plagiarism will result in an automatic “0” on the project.

  1. How does your selected condition typically occur?, What anatomical structures are involved?, What is the mechanism of injury?, What happens and what types of trauma or disease processes cause it? Be specific and thorough.,
  2. What population does your selected condition typically affect? Be specific and thorough.,
  3. What medical interventions (outside of physical therapy) are or may be required?,
  4. What precautions or contraindications must the PTA be aware of during the patient’s medical treatment and/or during recovery? List all that apply.,
  5. What are the physiological effects of the modalities you found to be most effective?,
  6. How are these modalities effective in treating your selected condition? Be thorough.,
  7. What other types of PT interventions are typically used to treat your selected condition during the:
    1. acute phase
    2. subacute phase
    3. chronic or full function phase
    4. During which phase are the modalities most effective? Provide a detailed explanation of why.
  8. What is the typical time frame for full recovery OR how long following medical intervention until the patient is considered able to return to full functional abilities? Be specific and thorough.
  9. Create an example daily treatment plan for the patient at both 2 weeks and 2 months following injury/medical intervention based on information found during your research. Be sure to include all modalities found to be effective.
