In this milestone, you will examine various definitions of social change identity and the ways in which these definitions align with the attitudes, beliefs, and ideals that reflect your identity. You will revisit the social change initiative that you discuss in this milestone assignment as you complete Project One.

Social Change Identity

Prompt

For this activity, you will first research and review five scholarly resources that include varying definitions of social change identity. In an annotated bibliography format, you will summarize and cite the definitions  from each resource, then respond to the following criteria:

  • Record and cite five scholarly resources that include varying definitions ,
  • Identify three themes that emerged from the researched definitions.,
  • Describe which of the three themes you feel has the greatest personal significance to you and why.,
  • Describe which of the three themes you believe has the greatest societal significance and why. ,

Note: In your research, you may find it challenging to locate resources that explicitly include the phrase “social change identity”. In fact, it is far more likely that you will find resources that loosely connect the concepts of “social change” and “identity”. As you may assume, the way in which each of us conceptualize “social change identity” is a matter of subjective perception. Therefore, please remain open minded and creative in your thought process as you develop your unique interpretation of this concept.

Next, you will address the following in 4 to 5 sentences per criterion, citing your sources in APA style:

  • Describe a theory of personal change that best reflects your character and/or values and explain why. Refer to the Theories of Personal Change document (located in the Module One Reading and Resources area) to justify your response.,
  • Describe how a social change initiative of your choice aligns with your personal ideals.,

All sources and ideas requiring attribution must be cited according to APA style.

What to Submit

Submit your Module One Milestone assignment as a Word document, with all sources cited according to APA style.

Emergency Department Case Discussion

Mr. W. is brought to the emergency department by his neighbor, Mr. C., who lives across the hall from him in a high-rise apartment building for low-income senior citizens. Mr. C. proceeds to explain that Mr. W. has become increasingly confused, paranoid, and secretive. He has stopped participating in social activities where he lives, no longer has a telephone, and won’t allow anyone into his apartment. It has been 4 months since Mr. C. last saw Mr. W. and says, “he looks bad. He’s lost weight and is too thin. He wouldn’t talk to me when I tried to start a conversation and he only opened his door a couple of inches. The smell coming from his apartment was awful. I can sometimes hear people yelling in the apartment, and I only ever see his older son stop by occasionally to check on him. And, today, I find him like this. I had to do something because I can’t just stand by and let this happen to him!” Mr. C. points to Mr. W. who has a black eye, swollen upper lip, and dried blood on his beard and clothing. You began looking at intended and unintended messages in a media artifact, generally, in the Module Three journal task, but for this milestone you are now focusing your examination of these messages—including the role and impact of bias—as they relate to your final project artifact selection.

Media Artifact

Review the Module Four resources and your work in the Module Three journal task. Use the Same Power Point Template  identify the intended and unintended messages in the media artifact that you are analyzing for your final project. Be sure also to discuss the impact that bias has on these messages. Remember, you do not have to deliver this presentation. You are simply preparing the presentation you might use if you were to present.

Note: You will work on the same template throughout the course, rather than on different templates for each milestone.

For this milestone, you will complete Slide 5 (“Messaging”) and Slide 6 (“Bias and Perception”) of your chosen final project template. Use the speaker notes section to further explain the details of your slide. Also, be sure to delete the existing text in the template and replace it with your own.Media Artifact

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

  • Messaging: In this slide, Slide 5 (“Messaging”), you will identify the intended and unintended messages that are portrayed by your artifact.
    1. Intended messages: What are the intended messagesthat the artifact is trying to convey? In responding to this question, consider the persuasive concepts that were used, why they were used, and the intended meanings and emotions portrayed. Include the features of your artifact contributing to the message.
    2. Unintended messages: What are the unintended messagesconveyed by the artifact? Support your reasoning with examples from features of your artifact contributing to the message.
  • Bias and Perception:In this slide, Slide 6 (“Bias and Perception”), you will describe the role bias plays in your artifact.  Media Artifact
    1. Explain the influence of corporate biason the message. ,What are the corporate biases present in your artifact?, How do these biases influence the way the intended and unintended messages are presented?,
    2. Based on the social and cultural considerations you identified for your audience identify possible perceptions the audience could bring to viewing the artifact.,
    3. Explain how these perceptions might impact your audience’s understanding of the artifact.,
