To Submit in Your Report:

Part A – Groups Supporting Liberation from Oppression

Find a group working in Ontario and/or Canada who is supporting liberation and/or self-determination of an oppressed group – this could be groups who are doing activist work, or helping survivors of

certain experiences, or trying to help people avoid the negative impacts of their oppression, etc…. (e.g., Supporting Liberation & Self-Determination

like the group from the video from this module: Cowboys Roaming the Streets of Compton)

Answer the following questions (for each question: minimum of 40 words (approx. 20 seconds for audio/video); references are not required as long as the content is from the group’s website – however, direct quotes or materials from others sources should be cited:

Provide the group’s name and website link. In general, what is their main goal/purpose and what kinds of programs, activities, events and/or supports do they offer?

Pick ONE specific program, activity, event or support this group offers that helps improve conditions for the oppressed group they support – what it is about, who is it for, and how does it benefit the oppressed group?

What are some successes this group has had in terms of fighting oppression – what steps did they take and what is the impact they had? Supporting Liberation & Self-Determination

Part B – The Case of Sam

Sam is a 28-year-old white female who lives for free in her brother and sister-in-law’s basement. Sam identifies as a lesbian; she has been with her girlfriend, Jacinda, for a few years and they want to move in together. They have been holding off on this because neither of them makes a lot of money and they don’t think they can afford to live on their own. They usually have to spend time outside of their homes as Sam’s sister-in-law and Jacinda’s father both openly disapprove of their relationship, specifically because they are dating another woman.

Sam is a high-school graduate and took one year of college. Even though she was able to pass most of her courses, she decided not to go back. Not only was she having trouble finding the money to pay for school, she found that her dyslexia made it hard to keep up with the materials and she often felt confused and frustrated in class, especially if the teacher asked her a direct question that she couldn’t answer. When this happened, she would often skip classes the next few times out of embarrassment. She also felt discouraged to return for a second year as one of the males in her program (and hence would be in most of her classes) would frequently make jokes about her being overweight.

Sam now works part-time at McDonald’s; she likes her job, especially the routine and structure of

making the food and filling the orders. However, she doesn’t like her boss, John. He often makes jokes about her weight and says things like “you’re lucky I let you keep this job, you aren’t very good at it” and “where would you be if you didn’t have me to put up with you”. He also often makes inappropriate jokes about lesbians. He usually follows up these kinds of statements and jokes by saying he’s “just teasing” and doesn’t mean anything by it.

Sam is significantly overweight as she often eats left-overs she gets from work because they are free and it helps her save money. She also has never learned to cook and avoids the kitchen in her house so she doesn’t have to spend time around her sister-in-law. She avoids exercise because she worries other people will make fun of her body if she tries to go to a gym or join a sports team. Read More

Clinical Case Study

Write a clinical case study that you could publish in a scientific journal if you were a health professional, based on one of these three fictitious scenarios:

You are a speech-language pathologist treating a 4-year-old girl who stutters.

You are a psychiatrist treating a 25-year-old man with bipolar disorder.

You are an oncologist treating a 45-year-old man with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Clinical Case Study

Required word count: 2,500-2,700 words or longer, excluding references.

Required number of sources: Please cite at least eight sources using APA citation style, both via in-text citations and “References.”

Your audience for this assignment are experts in your field, which means you should maintain a formal tone and use discipline-specific terms.

Your paper should have the following four major sections: a title page, an abstract, body of the paper, and a “References” list at the end. Please see below for more information regarding each section, along with a useful template below:

  1. An APA title page on page 1 with the usual APA formatting and information. Il. An abstract on page 2.

III. These 12 components of the body of the paper and what you should include in each: 1 Theoretical and Research Basis for Treatment

Here you should discuss background research on your patient’s condition or disease, with APA citations. Toward the end of this section, you will need to include a statement about what you are trying to accomplish through your clinical case study. In most cases, your goal will be to examine whether a specific treatment or treatments will work for your patient.

Case Introduction

In this section you should discuss very briefly (in two sentences or so) who your patient is in terms of their demographics and why they were referred to you. Please use the information from one of the three prompts provided at the beginning of the assignment for this section and make up a reason why they were referred to you. In general, the information in this section should be made up for the purpose of the assignment because your patient is not a real person.

Presenting Complaints

This section should be dedicated to your patient’s symptoms. Since your patient is not a real person, you will need to make up their symptoms while making them as realistic as possible.

So, for example, if you are writing about a person with depression, you will need to come up with symptoms that typically occur with this disorder. (If you are going to look up symptoms because you don’t know enough information about the condition, please cite your sources properly using APA citation style.) Please feel free to make this section as dramatic, intense,

and complicated as you only want to. Imagine you are a fiction writer who is trying to paint a character who comes across as a real person to the reader.

History

Discuss the patient’s medical history in terms of when their issues originally began and why., Again this information must be made up because your patient is not a real person.,

Assessment

Here you need to talk about how you examined your patient’s condition., Typically medical professionals use specific assessments for specific conditions and you will need to figure out how that’s done for your patient’s specific condition. ,You will need to research this information and provide APA citations for the assessment methods that you are going to use for your patient.,

Case Conceptualization

Here you need to talk about the specific treatment plan that you have chosen for your patient and the scientific evidence behind it, with APA citations.

Course of Treatment and Assessment of Progress

In this section describe the specifics of the treatment your patient underwent with you as their provider and how it went. So, for example, you can describe each individual treatment session, what exactly you did, and how the patient responded. Did they get better? This information should be made up but should again appear realistic to the reader.

Complicating Factors

Describe any complications that came up when you were treating your patient. The information in this section should be made up.

Access and Barriers to Care

Discuss briefly your patient’s access to medical care and any potential difficulties to this access that they may have encountered if there were any. The information in this section should be made up.

Follow-Up

Describe any follow-up visits and what your patient told you about how they felt at the time. (Any persisting improvement in symptoms?) This information should be made up.

Treatment Implications of the Case

Explain to the reader what the case study demonstrates about the treatments) used and why it matters. If you choose to use any sources in this section, please include APA citations.

Recommendations to Clinicians and Students

Explain what other clinicians and students in your field can learn from this specific case and how they can apply your findings and experience with this treatment to similar cases that they encounter. If you choose to use any sources in this section, please include APA citations.

Project Reporting & Journal Entries

Project Reporting & Journal Entries

Reflection is crucial for your development and is a vital aspect of critical thinking as outlined by Tanner’s Model of Clinical Judgment., It helps integrate learning from practice into personal experience aiding in future decision-making in patient care situations (Giddens, 2021),.

These reflective journal entries provide you with an opportunity to evaluate your AFE Community experiences., Each entry should be completed within 24 hours after your observational experience to ensure you capture all of the details., However you have until the end of week 10 to submit your completed validation of hours form and journal entries., Remember to print your validation of hours form and fill out each section without leaving any blank spaces or using ‘NA’. A designated coordinator who is overseeing your hours must sign your Project Reporting Log using ink. Then, submit the form to the correct assignment location in Canvas. Project Reporting & Journal Entries

Instructions for Journal Entries:

Write a personal reflection about each of your AFE Community Experience days. Each journal entry must be 3 paragraphs.

Discuss the following aspects:

Professional Competence: Reflect on positive aspects of your day at the experiential site, including successful interactions with others and any notable observations. Describe any interpersonal interactions observed.

Challenging Situations: Describe any challenges or difficult situations observed during the day at the experiential site. Include reasons for the challenges and potential underlying causes. Consider how to avoid the challenge(s).

Personal and Professional Growth and Development: Reflect on how you observed the ‘art of nursing’ or relevant professional practices during the day. Discuss how these observations contribute to your personal and professional growth, and how they might influence your future practice.

Note: Ensure completion of all Applied Field Experience requirements, including journal submissions, by the end of week 10.
