Typical and Atypical Medications. There are two major types of antipsychotic medication, both of which manage the positive symptoms of schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, including hallucinations and delusions.

Typical antipsychotics are the first generation of medications, including chlorpromazine and haloperidol. Typical antipsychotics tend to be very effective, yet often come with severe side effects. Older clients are more likely to have been prescribed typical antipsychotics before the newer atypical antipsychotics became available. Atypical antipsychotics are the newer generation of medications; they tend to be better tolerated with less severe side effects (Perry, et al., 2007). Since typical antipsychotics often have severe side effects, they are used when atypical antipsychotics are not effective.

Typical and Atypical Medications

Reference: Perry, P. J. (Ed.). (2007). Psychotropic drug handbook. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

Following scenario:

A client, Roger, scheduled an urgent session and is now describing symptoms of active psychosis to you. Roger was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia by a psychiatrist and was given medications to stabilize his brain chemistry; however, Roger is not taking the medications as prescribed because they make him feel trapped and disengaged in his own skin.

Write out a mini script showing what you might say to Roger.

Respond to the following prompts using your mini script.

Provide two potential questions you might ask to determine what Roger understands about his diagnosis and about the role of medications.

Provide two potential questions you might ask to learn about the reasons for medication nonadherence.

Explain the role of medications and counseling alongside a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Include an empathetic reflection to Roger.

Practical Suicide Prevention Counseling. Effective suicide prevention counseling can literally save a life. With timely interventions, treatment and support, suicides and suicide attempts can be prevented. In crisis counseling, how you encounter the suicidal client may differ from the traditional face-to-face interactions we typically consider for long-term care. Some suicidal clients reach out with a phone call or online messaging. Other times we are given a written case referral and asked to consult for immediate safety planning. Since we encounter suicidal clients in a variety of platforms, this discussion is designated to help you not only perfect your skills in determining how to assess and intervene with a suicidal client, but also to consider the impact of how the client information is presented on our decision making regarding best client care. In this Discussion, you will be assigned a particular case presentation to review. Students with the last name A–I will watch the video recording as if working with a face-to-face or online client. Based on your assigned format, you will assess for risk factors and begin safety planning for your client.

Sleep-wake Illness. Sleep-wake disorders are defined by disturbances to a person’s sleep patterns. Sleep disruptions impact physical, mental, and emotional health. There are 10 groups of sleep-wake disorders described in the DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013): insomnia, hypersomnolence disorder, narcolepsy, breathing-related sleep disorders, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, non-rapid eye movement sleep arousal disorders, nightmare disorder, rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, restless legs syndrome, and substance/medication-induced sleep disorder.

The two key symptoms of a sleep disorder are fatigue and trouble focusing. People with mental health disorders like depression often have co-occurring sleep-wake disorders. It is critical that the clinician conduct an in-depth assessment when a client presents with a sleep-wake disorder, to include among other questions the following: nutrition, energy drink and other supplement/stimulant use, exercise, trauma history, technology use patterns, social and familial relationship health, and medical history with medication history.

Sleep-wake Illness

Consider the following scenario:

Alex, a male African American adolescent aged 14, has come to therapy because he is experiencing the symptoms of a sleep-wake disorder. His sleep-wake disorder is disrupting his schoolwork, causing absenteeism from school, and negatively impacting his social engagements due to an increase in irritability and irrational thinking.

Write out a mini script showing what you, the counselor, might say to Alex.

Respond to the following prompts using your mini script.

Provide four potential questions you might ask about Alex’s current sleep hygiene.

Explain the role of counseling alongside sedative hypnotics.

Explain the long-term consequences of a sleep-wake disorder.

Include an empathetic reflection to Alex.

Scholarly Activity – Employee Union. For this assignment you will write a two-part scholarly paper. It requires you to use academic sources, scholarly word choice and tone, and effective use of evidence. Begin with an introduction that establishes an understanding of the purpose of your paper. Clearly present your thesis and a summary of the main points. Next, for the first part, you must compare and contrast the rights—and the regulation of those rights—of unionized employees versus public sector employees.

Scholarly Activity – Employee Union

Address the following, at a minimum: Differentiate the governance of rights for unionized and public sector employees. Examine the rights of unionized employees versus public sector employees. Next, you will compare and contrast the rights and benefits of a non-union member versus a union member in a unionized bargaining unit. Be sure to: Summarize the rights of both members in a bargaining environment. Examine the differences for the two member classes when it comes to strikes, concerted action, and other organization efforts. Explain employer conduct that violates employees’ rights. Your paper must be a minimum of three pages, not including the title or reference pages. Scholarly Activity – Employee Union. You may include up to three graphics (not decorative images or pictures), tables, or charts to augment your paper. You must use a minimum of three academic or peer-reviewed sources to support your paper. One source must come from the CSU Online Library.

Developing a Flexible Budget. Review the scenario and watch this week’s videos before you complete the activity below. This scenario can also be found in the “Problems – Series A” section 8-19A of Ch. 8, “Performance Evaluation” of Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting Concepts.

Scenario

The Redmond Management Association held its annual public relations luncheon in April Year 2. Based on the previous year’s results, the organization allocated $25,290 of its operating budget to cover the cost of the luncheon. To ensure that costs would be appropriately controlled, you, the treasurer, prepared the following budget for the Year 2 luncheon.

Developing a Flexible Budget

Use Excel—showing all work and formulas—to complete the following:

Prepare a flexible budget.

Compute the sales volume variance and the variable cost volume variances based on a comparison between the master budget and the flexible budget.

Compute flexible budget variances by comparing the flexible budget with the actual results.

Mr. Snow was extremely upset with the budget deficit. He immediately called you, the treasurer, to complain about the budget variance for the meal cost. He told you that the added dessert caused the meal cost to be $4,810 ($25,110-$20,300) over budget. He added, “I could expect a couple hundred dollars one way or the other, but several thousand is totally unacceptable. At the next budget meeting of the budget committee, I want you to explain what happened.” Developing a Flexible Budget.

Create a 6- to 8-slide presentation for the budget committee meeting. Complete the following in your presentation:

Summarize the results of the sales volume and variable cost volume variances computations based on the comparison between the master budget and the flexible budget.

Summarize the results of the flexible budget variances computations based on the comparison between the flexible budget and the actual results. Justify the favorable or unfavorable budget variances.

Since this is a not-for-profit organization, address why anyone should be concerned with meeting the budget.

Developing a Flexible Budget. Make recommendations for what can be done differently to stay on budget for future luncheons. Provide specific examples to support your recommendations.

Cite references to support your assignment.

Format your citations according to APA guidelines.

Submit your assignment.

Business Law & Ethics. Refer to section “The WH Framework for Business Ethics” of Ch. 2, “Business Ethics” of Dynamic Business Law for information on the WH Framework. Review the scenario and complete the activity below. This scenario can also be found in the “Questions & Problems” section of Ch. 2, “Business Ethics” in Dynamic Business Law.

Scenario

Steven J. Trzaska was the head of L’Oreal USA’s regional patent team, managing the procedure by which the company patented products. As an attorney barred in Pennsylvania, Trzaska had to adhere to professional rules of conduct established by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in addition to rules promulgated by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In 2014, L’Oreal S.A., the French parent company of L’Oreal USA, enacted a global quota of patent applications each regional office had to file each year. Employees were informed that failure to meet the quota would negatively impact their careers and even their continued employment at L’Oreal. Meanwhile, L’Oreal USA simultaneously enacted a rule to increase the quality of patent applications filed with the USPTO. The second rule led to a decrease in number of patents that could be filed with the USPTO. Trzaska’s team would not be able to fulfill the patent quota.

Business Law & Ethics

Faced with the problem, Trzaska informed management that his team would not file patents that they did not believe in good faith were patentable. Several weeks after Trzaska’s meeting with the management, he was offered 2 severance packages that he did not accept. Finally, Trzaska was let go. Trzaska subsequently sued L’Oreal, alleging that he was fired for refusal to violate ethical rules that regulate the legal profession. Business Law & Ethics.

Create a WH Framework chart, similar to Exhibit 2.2. Refer to L’Oreal’s core values and the primary values in Exhibit 2.3 to determine the guidelines to include in the WH Framework.

Write an explanation of how you decided on the list of stakeholders and guidelines to include in your WH Framework. Address the following questions in your explanation:

Which stakeholders did Traszka and the management of L’Oreal cater to? Why?

What values did L’Oreal’s management choose when they made the decision to fire Trzaska? Why?

Self-Reflection

Business Law & Ethics. In addition to your explanation, address the following self-reflection questions:

How did the WH Framework help you analyze the situation?

Now that you’ve put together the framework, how does the WH Framework help managers with making business decisions?

What type of decisions would the WH Framework chart help you make as a manager? Use APA referencing style.

Reviewing Affordable Care Act. Since the Affordable Care Act became the law of the land, there has been much written concerning its ongoing economic impact on our nation’s economy. There have also been many sound reports that  few of the benchmarks set for it have ever been reached. Both good and bad has been reported concerning this massive legislation. Now that we have had a long history with the “ACA” we have started to see its impact first hand. The heated debate regarding what to do next with it has been ongoing and recently overshadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Politicians are not economists, and are not always known for making sound financial choices. Some have argued that the government neglected to listen to its own economists, the Congressional Budget Office when it passed this bill into law.

Reviewing Affordable Care Act

Instructions

Using the economic principles which you have learned throughout the semester, write an amendment to, or a replacement for the Affordable Care Act. The changes you create will need to accomplish the original stated goals of the Affordable Care Act.

For those of you who cannot remember what they were, here is a quick recap:

Reviewing Affordable Care Act. Bring down the overall cost of health care as it related to GDP.  Provide health care services for the entire population. Provide a full prescription drug benefit for the elderly. Expand the entire scope of health care services. As an economist it is your choice what to do next. You may replace or repair the system at will, but will need to explain why and how. This is not an attack on the President personally, and as such please keep the political rhetoric out of your paper. Also keep faith out of it. The argument that “this will work” if we get everyone to believe in it, is both foolish and dangerous. Use APA referencing style.
