Watching the Good Doctor

Now you are going to write a one paragraph summary of the article you read where you describe the following elements:

  1. a) the design the authors used for their project,
  2. b) identify the independent and dependent variables,
  3. c) talk about how the authors carried out their study (the methods; including the participants, how they manipulated the iv, how they measured the dv, and how they controlled for confounding variables in the study),
  4. d) summarize the results.

But here’s the catch: I want you to write a bad paper. Yup, you read that right, I want you to write a bad paper. I want you to write an example of what a paper should NOT be.

Watching the Good Doctor

Watching the Good Doctor

You may be wondering, “what do you mean by a bad paper?” Well, here’s where you can get creative. In your paper you should:

  1. Incorrectly describe two of the above-mentioned required aspects of the paragraph (items a through d)
  2. Include at least 4 grammatical errors.

Watching the Good Doctor

You will be sharing this paper with your peers this week, so be prepared to swap papers with one of your group members during the discussion assignment! The goal is to give your peers lots of elements to fix, so don’t be afraid to be tricky!

  1. Write no more than 10 sentences, the max word count is 250.
  2. In-text citation and direct quotes are not needed (we will learn how to do that next week!).
  3. You cannot directly copy and paste the sentences/phrases from the original article. You must use your own words (paraphrase) to summarize. Each student’s writing should and must be different.
  4. Font: Times New Roman; Font size: 12.

Don’t forget to save a copy of your response to this question before you submit your assignment! You’ll need it for the discussion assignment this week! APA.

Change Management Plan

This step requires creating a Change Management Plan. How should the solution be implemented?

The Task Force Plan must follow this structure:

Professional Cover Page

List of Contributors

Table of Contents

Executive Summary

An executive summary is designed primarily to serve the person who, at least initially, does not intend to read the entire report. It usually states the main points of each section and emphasizes results, conclusions, and recommendations, usually in around three pages.

Change Management Plan

Executive summaries are ideally suited to the needs of leaders who are seeking advice about a decision or a course of action. These summaries are called executive summaries because some decision-makers rely wholly upon their advisors to read and evaluate the rest of the report.

For the purposes of this assignment, the Executive Summary should be no more than two pages and should concentrate on the background of the problem, current state, and a summary of recommended solutions.

Organized Sections of Proposed Solutions (for example, goals, objectives, action steps, protocols, resources, definition of terms, etc.)

References in APA format (for scholarly or practitioner resources that are cited or used within the plan)

Appendices (OPTIONAL – attached materials, tools, documents, samples, templates, etc. that are part of the solution)

Create a brief Change Management Plan in PowerPoint to accompany your Task Force Plan. The Change Management Plan must address the following:

What will be improved with this solution? How will the problem be solved?

What is the process for using and communicating the Task Force Plan among the organization’s task force members?

What additional resources may be needed for successful implementation?

How will implementation be monitored for resistance (a normal part of change)?

How will successful virtuous leadership and team performance be celebrated?

What is the process for reviewing, revising, and continuously improving the solution?

If any resources are cited in the Change Management Plan, use APA style to format in-text citations and the references list.

GEN104: College Reading Strategies

 Slide 1: Title slide

  • Title of project (Be creative! Think of a fun title!)
  • Your First and Last Name
  • University of Arizona Global Campus
  • Course Code: Name of Course (i.e., GEN104: College Reading Strategies)
  • Instructor Name

Slide 2: Explain how your view of reading has changed

  • Due Date

since the beginning of this course. You can focus on the importance of reading, your confidence in your reading skills, the purpose of reading, or something else. Whatever you choose to focus on, be sure to describe how you felt about it at the beginning of class and how you feel about reading now.

  • This is a good place to include a quote or paraphrase. You need to include 1-2 quotes and/or paraphrases from the course materials in this project.

GEN104: College Reading Strategies

GEN104: College Reading Strategies

Slide 3: Describe your plan for reading in future classes.

  • Which strategy will be your “go-to” strategy? This is the strategy you will use most often for reading in your future courses.
  • Explain a situation in which you would choose to use a different strategy, other than the one you just described. What is that situation? What strategy would you use instead? Why does changing your strategy in this situation help you read more effectively?

Slide 4: Create a visual representation of your Reading Strategies Plan.

This slide is meant to be printable and placed in your study area to remind you of your chosen reading strategies. You can use this template to help you organize your plan or create your own as long as the required components are included. For your Reading Strategies Plan,

  • Consider the different environments or contexts in which you will be reading. What strategies do you need to use to be successful in that environment or context? For example, how would your strategy change if you were reading in the car waiting to pick up your child versus reading in the library? How would your reading strategy change if you were reading a popular versus a scholarly source?
  • Include at least three different reading environments or contexts on your Reading Strategies Plan. Examples of different reading environments and contexts are

type (such as scholarly or popular),

■ medium (such as on a screen or on paper),

■ length of the text,

■ format (such as informational, narrative, or academic),

familiarity with topic (background knowledge), and

■ environment (where you are reading).

GEN104: College Reading Strategies

Slide 5: Prepare an example of how your preferred reading strategies can be applied outside of the classroom (e.g., work, home, etc.).

Be specific. What might you be reading, why might you be reading it, and which specific strategy might help in that situation?

  • This is another good place to include a quote or paraphrase. Remember you need to include one to two quotes and/or paraphrases from the course materials in this project.

Slide 6: Include a screenshot (JPEG or PNG) of your “Annotate-Along” text that you completed during Live Learning.

  • You may include multiple screen shots and/or multiple slides to include the entire document.
  • If using the Word version, you may zoom out until all pages are visible for the screen shot.
  • If you printed out the document, you may use pictures of the document instead of screen shots.

Slide 7: List references used (one to two sources should be used).

*For Slides 4 and 6, you will need to include additional items: the PDF Reading Strategies Plan (or create your own) for Slide 4 and a JPEG or PNG of your “Annotate-Along” text from Live Learning for Slide 6. APA.

Instructions:

Read the following case study and answer the reflective questions. Please provide rationales for your answers. Make sure to provide a citation for your answers. Must follow APA, 7th ed. format.

CASE STUDY: Family Member with Alzheimer’s Disease: Mark and Jacqueline

Mark and Jacqueline have been married for 30 years. They have grown children who live in another state. Jacqueline’s mother has moved in with the couple because she has Alzheimer’s disease.  Jacqueline is an only child and always promised her mother that she would care for her in her old age. Her mother is unaware of her surroundings and often calls out for her daughter Jackie when Jacqueline is in the room. Jacqueline reassures her mother that she is there to help, but to no avail.

Alzheimer’s Disease Family Case

Alzheimer’s Disease Family Case

Jacqueline is unable to visit her children on holidays because she must attend to her mother’s daily needs. She is reluctant to visit friends or even go out to a movie because of her mother’s care needs or because she is too tired. Even though she has eliminated most leisure activities with Mark, Jacqueline goes to bed at night with many of her caregiving tasks unfinished. She tries to visit with her mother during the day, but her mother rejects any contact with her daughter. Planning for the upcoming holidays seems impossible to Mark, because of his wife’s inability to focus on anything except her mother’s care.

Alzheimer’s Disease Family Case

Jacqueline has difficulty sleeping at night and is unable to discuss plans even a few days in advance. She is unable to visit friends and is reluctant to have friends visit because of the unpredictable behavior of her mother and her need to attend to the daily care.

Reflective Questions

  1. How do you think this situation reflects Jacqueline’s sense of role performance?
  2. How do you think that Jacqueline may be contributing to her own health?

Change Management – Case Assignment

Assignment Overview

Signature Assignment: Body of Knowledge, Introduced Level

In this assignment your body of knowledge will be assessed at the “introduced” level. The first criterion, “Assignment Driven” in the rubric will be useful for this purpose. Then in HRM599 knowledge will be further assessed at the “emphasized” level.

Case Assignment

Address the following questions in an essay format which includes an introduction and conclusion (not a Q & A format):

  • As an HR consultant, design a process for your employer to analyze what changes are needed in their HRD procedures, policies, and practices to improve the development of employees. Discuss the process you would follow and why you selected those process steps.
  • Be sure to bring in what you have learned from your change management, internal consulting, and organizational development readings.

Change Management - Case Assignment

Change Management – Case Assignment

Provide private-sector employer examples of HRM programs, systems, processes, and/or procedures as you address the assignment requirements. Provide names of the employers in your examples. Use different employer examples in this course than what have been used previously in your other papers and courses.

Utilize information from at least 2 sources from the Trident Online Library to help strengthen and validate your discussion.

Paper length: 3–4 pages (not counting the cover and reference pages).

Assignment Expectations

Your paper will be evaluated using the criteria as stated in the Case rubric. The following is a review of the rubric criteria:

  • Assignment-Driven: Does the paper fully address all aspects of the assignment?   Is the assignment addressed accurately and precisely using sound logic? Does the paper meet minimum length requirements?
  • Critical Thinking: Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?
  • Business Writing: Is the essay logical, well organized and well written? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?

Change Management – Case Assignment

  • Effective Use of Information: Does the submission demonstrate that the student has read, understood, and can apply the background materials for the module? If required, has the student demonstrated effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality sources? Do additional sources used provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?
  • Citing Sources: Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Have all sources (e.g., references used from the Background page, the assignment readings, and outside research) been included, and are these properly cited? Have all sources cited in the paper been included on the References page?
  • Timeliness: Has the assignment been submitted to TLC (Trident’s learning management system) on or before the module’s due date?

Typically, the last “assignment” in our e-learning courses is a project, but I think a little more attention is needed in the area of, “What do I do after I have extinguished every tool in my toolbox to help this struggling student?”

Sometimes / Oftentimes, students need more help than we can provide in the classroom. We still want to continue providing resources and additional help, but they might need a referral to the MTSS team or directly to Special Education. But, how do you know when to refer? Some of the articles below are for parents, but the information provided is good for educators as well.
