Critical Incident Plan Development

Goal: Develop a Critical Incident Plan Pan

Critical Incident: I Had Them Right Where I Wanted Them . . . I Thought Stan was excited. It was his chance to show his CEO that he could be counted on for the important jobs. Stan was going to meet with an executive team that had flown in from Tokyo, Japan.

This executive team represented a large computer company that could place enough orders to make up a quarter of Stan’s company’s current sales of microchips. Stan was supposed to close the deal to secure a commitment from this company. When Stan entered the room where the Japanese executives waited, he didn’t waste any time heading for his computer to start what he thought was his finest PowerPoint presentation ever. Before he began to speak, each executive handed Stan a business card held in both hands with a slight bow.

Critical Incident Plan Development

Stan took out three of his own cards and handed them to one of the executives while keeping one hand on his computer. During the presentation, Stan was getting a good vibe from the executives as they continuously nodded their heads in agreement with what Stan was presenting about the quality and state of the art of the technology his company could offer them. At the end of the presentation the executives asked Stan if he would like to join them for drinks, but Stan, who didn’t have a high level of tolerance for alcohol, declined their offer. They bowed as Stan left, and he felt like he had just earned the respect of three international businessmen.

Stan strutted through the office for the rest of the day, confident that he had just secured one of his company’s largest orders. Later that day his boss called him in and asked him to sit down. Stan waited with anticipation and a slight curiosity as he noticed the vein on his boss’s head throbbing. Stan’s boss cleared his throat and surprised Stan with the next words that came out of his mouth. “Stan, I don’t know what happened during your meeting with the Tokyo executive team, but all deals are off. They are flying back to Japan tonight and said that they would look for another supplier.”

Critical Incident Plan Development

CRITICAL INCIDENT DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Did Stan do anything wrong before his presentation?

2. Did Stan make inappropriate assumptions about the nonverbal behavior of the Japanese executives?

3. Is there anything that Stan or his company can do to rectify the situation?

You are to review the critical incident questions based on the assignment scenario and write a 2-4 page double-space summary answer to the questions in APA format. Please make sure you have a MSOL title page (see thesis handbook) and the assignment is properly formatted.:

Leadership Applications: Explain how the ideas, concepts, principles, methods, techniques, etc., discussed in the article better help leaders to lead change effectively and successfully.

Paper Construction: Cover Page, APA Formatting, Report Length & Reference Page

This paper should be well-formatted with the above three clear headings and subheadings and should be in APA format, Times New Roman 12, and should be a minimum of 3 pages double-spaced, excluding cover or title and reference pages. This completed paper must be submitted under the appropriate assignment tab in MS Word format. Use APA refencing style.

Business Finance Research Assignment

You are a legal assistant for the attorney of the ABCD company. For this assignment you must conduct research and find three (3) court opinions (i.e. cases that have been previously decided by the court precedent (i.e. have similar facts and issues of law) to the case below. You must provide the case title and citation of each of the three (3) cases you find. You can use Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/) or other resources from the school library in order to conduct your research. In addition, you must utilize the format provided below in order to brief (summarize) each of the cases that you list for this assignment.

Business Finance Research Assignment

The Church of Narnia vs. ABCD Company: Six months ago, the CEO for ABCD Company sent a letter to the Bishop for the Church of Narnia pledging a $5,000,000.00 donation to the Church. Upon receipt of this news, the bishop contacted ABCD’s CEO who re-assured the bishop that the Church would be receiving a check for this amount within the ensuing four to six weeks. The bishop, who for several years badly wanted to expand the Church in order to increase its congregation, immediately hired an architect and paid him $200,000.00 to design the new ambitious project. The bishop was in love with the architect’s design, so he quickly hired a general contractor for $1,000,000.00 to start the building process. In addition to the $1,000,000.00 for the labor, the bishop paid another 3,000,000.00 for the tools and materials needed for the project. On week five after receiving the letter and first speaking to ABCD’s CEO on the phone, the bishop called ABCD because he was nervous about the fact that he had not received the check and he had already incurred such significant expenses. Note that the only reason the bishop engaged in this ambitious construction project was because of the extra money he was counting on getting from ABCD since the Church’s structure did not need it to continue its regular operations. The CEO at that point told the bishop that soon after committing to donate the money, ABCD’s finances started going terribly wrong and as such at this point, they were not able to make a donation to the church. The bishop is now demanding that ABCD still true to its word and give the church the donation.

Professional Introspective and Career Exploration

Please make sure you understand the instructions carefully……. It’s two part of this assignment the first one I would like for you to do a PowerPoint and the second one it a paper I will put my voice on both of them…… Please I need this by Thursday…….

OBJECTIVE

  • Identify an entry-level or internship career opportunity that best reflects your interests and aptitudes.
  • Discover different professional associations to join within the industry.
  • Create a narrated presentation and develop an elevator pitch (video) that can be used during a job interview for an internship or entry-level position.

In this assignment, now that you’ve discovered your Enneagram personality type and gained greater self-awareness, you will create a presentation that identifies an entry-level position and professional association that relates to your desired career path. Then, you will craft an elevator pitch adapted to the entry-level position that you researched. Your elevator pitch should reflect your skills, unique value proposition, and career goals.

 Professional Introspective and Career Exploration

Professional Introspective and Career Exploration

INSTRUCTIONS

Part I: Record a 3-minute narrated presentation with embedded audio using PowerPoint.

Note: You will be recording your voice as you narrate your presentation. Your audio must be embedded into the video and not be submitted as a separate file.

  • Slide 1 – Title
    • Create a title for your presentation.
    • Include your name and the due date of the assignment.
  • Slide 2 – Screenshot of an entry-level or internship job posting
    • Research an entry-level job posting or internship on a company or job search website.
    • Explain why you want this job and how it’s a step toward reaching your long-term goals.
  • Slide 3 – Explain what skills the position is looking for and the ones you currently have. Feel free to include the strengths and any additional helpful insights you learned about yourself from your Enneagram test results.
  • Slide 4 – Include a professional association that you would want to join, explain how it relates to the position you’re interested in, and how it aligns with your career goals.
  • Slide 5 – *References for job postings and any images used.

Once you’re finished creating your presentation (slides + embedded audio narration), export and save your presentation as one video file (.mp4 or .mov). Submitting the audio as a separate file will result in a zero for the “Presentation Narration” portion of your grade.

Tips for Success:

  • Consider writing out a script. A script will help you meet the time limit and ensure you address each requirement of the presentation.
  • Feel free to use images and pictures to illustrate your answers on each slide. Avoid writing paragraphs, but instead include short bullet lists that will help communicate your thoughts.
  • Proofread your slides for spelling typos and grammatical errors.
  • Practice. Practice. Practice. The goal is to become comfortable hearing yourself speak. The more you practice, the more comfortable and confident you’ll feel.

Below is a list of sites to get you started in searching for job postings. Sometimes going directly to the company’s website is the best option to see what’s available.

Professional Introspective and Career Exploration

Part II: Craft an elevator pitch to use if you were called to interview for the position you chose in Part I.

Step 1: First, write out a script for a 45-60 second elevator pitch. The formula you’ll follow is Elevator Pitch = Present + Past + Future + Value Proposition

  • The Present
    • Introduce your full name, your status as a student, and any additional information that is current and relevant to the position you’re applying for.
    • Example 1: “Hello, my name is _____ and I’m currently studying Digital Marketing at Full Sail University. I’m also a member of DECA, our business competition club on campus.
    • Example 2: “My name is ______ and I’m studying Music Business at Full Sail University. In my spare time, I also play guitar and share my music on YouTube and Soundcloud.
  • The Past
    • Provide a statement about a past experience that demonstrates your work ethic or relates to the position you’re interested in.
    • Example 1: “Last summer I competed in the Collegiate DECA State Competition where my team won 1st place in the Marketing Management category.”
    • Example 2: “I had an opportunity to volunteer backstage at Coachella two years ago. It was an amazing experience that deepened my passion for the music business and allowed me to gain on-site experience.”
  • The Future + PVP (Personal Value Proposition)
    • Communicate your desired outcome for the interview and your value proposition. Your value proposition is a statement of your strengths and what you will achieve/accomplish for the company. Remember, you want to prove how you can benefit the company, not just what you will gain from being hired. Providing a specific example of a task you will fulfill for them is a great way to show the value you can bring to the company.
    • Example 1: “I’m looking for a position with an advertising agency where I can use my creativity and analytical skills to create commercials that ultimately convert viewers into paying customers.”
    • Example 2: “I’m interested in this internship because I want to broaden my knowledge about the music business and gain more concert production experience. As a detail-oriented team player, I will ensure that the crew is kept up to date about schedule changes and has all the equipment they need to produce an exciting experience for our audience.

Step 2: Rehearse your elevator pitch. Practice saying it out loud to a friend or in front of a mirror.

Step 3: Record your elevator pitch on video.

  • Your elevator pitch should be between 45-60 seconds long.
  • Use your computer, iPad, smartphone, or DSLR camera to record it.
  • You must appear on camera for the entire video.
  • Talk and look directly into the camera, as if you were speaking to an interviewer.
  • Dress professionally as if you were attending a real interview.

Professional Introspective and Career Exploration

Tips for Success:

  • Practice. Practice. Practice. Give yourself enough time to practice and don’t rush through your elevator pitch. Don’t worry about sounding unnatural because it’s better to sound a bit scripted than come off as unprepared in an interview setting.
  • Lighting: Use enough light to ensure that your face is well lit and visible on camera, without any shadows. You can use a lighting kit, desk lamp, or even natural sunlight from the window. Avoid sitting with your back to a window or you will appear “backlit,” meaning the sunlight will cast a silhouette shadow around you, making it hard to see your face on camera.
  • Background: Be mindful of the space behind you. If you choose to record with a wall behind you, keep at least 2-3 ft of space between you and the wall. Remove anything that may cause distract.
  • Minimize Background Sounds: Record your video in a quiet environment to minimize background noise and distractions.
  • Your Posture: Sit up straight and try not to slouch when recording your elevator pitch. Maintaining good posture while you record will help you project and pronounce your words more clearly.
  • You’ve Got This: Smile, express enthusiasm, and don’t forget to breathe! Remember, you want to leave a lasting impression to get hired. You can do it!

Professional Introspective and Career Exploration

Case study- Nursing Homework

SECTION 1 BACKGROUND: IDENTIFYING A PROBLEM Eleanor is a 52-year-old patient who has had a hip replacement 1 day ago who is on your assigned patient care team. Your complete patient care rounds and assess Eleanor’s vital signs, comfort level, intravenous (IV) site and wound dressing. Eleanor has an IV for fluid replacement and medication administration. She also has an indwelling urinary catheter. She tells you that her pain level is a 4 out of 10 and she is reluctant to move around because of the pain. You know that the patient’s pain control is a high priority, and that the physician ordered the indwelling urinary catheter until the patient is able to get out of bed easily and tolerate fluids. The urinary catheter is convenient in that the patient will not experience pain getting up to the bathroom and it provides an accurate measurement of output. On the other hand, you know that the longer the indwelling urinary catheter is in place, the higher the risk of an infection. You ask a trusted senior nurse when the right time is to remove the catheter since Eleanor is now tolerating ice chips. The senior nurse tells you that the catheter is usually kept until the patient is able to get up and ambulate independently. You wonder if there are any contraindications or problems with removing Eleanor’s indwelling catheter now. You decide to follow the senior nurse’s advice, leaving the indwelling urinary catheter in place and reevaluate for removal in the morning.

Case study- Nursing Homework

Case study- Nursing Homework

SECTION II BACKGROUND: INTEPROFESSIONAL TEAMS AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT This section is focused on the identification of a clinical problem and the steps of forming an interprofessional team to work on fixing the problem. The intent is to understand who the stakeholders for this problem and the importance of engaging stakeholders in the quality improvement (QI) project are. Examine the problem of CAUTIs holistically to identify stakeholders. You return to work the next day to learn that Eleanor has a low-grade fever of 99.8° F that was reported to the physician. The physician ordered an immediate urine culture and removal of the catheter the previous afternoon. The urine culture was positive for Escherichia coli, representing the presence of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). During the bedside report, you find that although Eleanor states she is tired, she is able to get up to the bathroom with a walker independently. She is also tolerating oral fluids and foods. The presence of the CAUTI bothered you enough that you spoke to your Unit Director about looking into evidence-based interventions to reduce CAUTIs. The Unit Director tells you that the rate of CAUTIs for the medical–surgical unit has steadily risen over the past year and the monthly total is twice the number from 2 years ago. You volunteer to convene a committee to work on the problem. Your first step is to identify others who should be on your team. You know that the stakeholders are individuals who influence or are influenced by the clinical problem under investigation. Review the discussion on stakeholders in Chapter 15 for guidance on selecting appropriate stakeholders.

SECTION III BACKGROUND: LEADING A QI TEAM This section is focused on power gradients and leadership styles within an interprofessional team. Consider how to lead a team consisting of various healthcare professionals. You identified a variety of interprofessional to include on your committee including two direct care nurses from the medical–surgical unit, one nurse from the operating room, two certified nurse assistants, a nurse supervisor, a physician, the medical–surgical clinical nurse specialist, a pharmacist, a laboratory representative, and a dietician. You feel that these individuals clearly represent all aspects of patient care. Review the information on communicating within a team and with different power gradients in Chapter 8. By working closely with the clinical nurse specialist (CNS), you are able to convene a meeting of the team.
